The FreeStyle Libre sensor is applied on to the back of the upper arm with a simple, disposable device called an applicator. When the sensor is applied, a thin, flexible and sterile fibre is inserted just under the skin. It is held in place with a small adhesive pad.

To obtain a glucose reading, simply perform a quick, painless 1-second scan of the reader over the sensor. This scan gives you more information than monitoring with blood glucose test strips, without the need for routine finger pricks2. The FreeStyle Libre system also offers optional FreeStyle Libre software to generate concise reports to assist with the analysis of glucose data.

Each scan of the reader over the sensor gives a current glucose reading, the last 8-hours of glucose history, and a trend arrow showing if glucose is going up, down, or changing slowly. The reader can scan through clothing3.

The FreeStyle Libre software is intended for use by individuals and health care professionals to aid in the review, analysis, and evaluation of information such as sensor glucose readings, blood glucose test results, blood ketone test results, and other data uploaded from the FreeStyle Libre flash glucose monitoring system, in support of an effective diabetes health management program
The FreeStyle Libre software is not intended for the diagnosis of or screening for diabetes mellitus. Users should be aware that the FreeStyle Libre software is merely an information management tool and it is therefore not intended to substitute for the support of a health care professional. Individuals should always consult their health care professional if they have any queries or concerns about diabetes management.

Licence and Service Agreement and Software Privacy Policy Before installing FreeStyle Libre software, you will be asked to accept the terms of Abbott Diabetes Care’s (“ADC” or “we” or “our”) Licence and Service Agreement and Software Privacy Policy. Please read these important documents. In summary, when you use FreeStyle Software, we will automatically collect data from your use of the Freestyle Libre products. This means that ADC collects information about your computer, software, and device (including the device serial number) to ensure that you have up-to-date software. We also separately collect de-identified information to improve our products and services, and we may share this de-identified data with our partners; however, it is not possible for us or our partners to link this data to you in any way.

Unlike traditional glucose monitoring, using the FreeStyle Libre sensor does not involve routine finger pricks2.
The FreeStyle Libre sensor is factory calibrated - so you don’t need to calibrate it again.
It continuously measures the glucose concentration in your interstitial fluid, and stores 8 hours of data.
The FreeStyle Libre Sensor can be worn for up to 14 days whilst you shower, bathe, swim1, exercise or play.
Finger prick2 glucose readings and sensor glucose readings won’t always match and in fact are likely to be different5.
You can take as many glucose readings as you want whilst the sensor is being worn – it even scans through clothes3.
Due to the sensor storing the latest 8 hours of continuous data, you only need a minimum of three scans per day to obtain a full 24 hour glycaemic profile4 - enabling you to make more informed decisions about your diabetes management.
1 Sensor is water-resistant in up to 1 metre (3 feet) of water for a maximum of 30 minutes.
2 A finger prick test using a glucose meter is required during times of rapidly changing glucose levels when interstitial fluid glucose levels may not accurately reflect blood levels or if hypoglycaemia is reported by the system or when symptoms do not match the systems readings.
3 The reader can capture data from the sensor when it is within 1cm to 4cm of the sensor.
